Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty i.e. Tummy Tuck
This is a procedure that removes excess skin above the pubis and tightens the abdominal muscles. Liposuction improves the contour across the hips and the rib margins.
Does Your Abdomen protrude and now have excess skin in the lower abdomen after childbirth or weight loss?
Exercise ineffective?
Stretched out muscles and skin from pregnancy and weight gain are often not amenable to the usual corrections with exercise and weight loss. In fact, further weight loss will accentuate the extent of the skin fold.
A tummy tuck is a solution to these problems.
Surgery is done in our hospital operating room with skilled anesthesia and surgical personnel.
The incision will be placed low enough to be hidden by today’s low cut clothing, even a thong. Overnight hospitalization ensures that pain and comfort issues can be addressed.
You may shower the next day. Usually one or two drains are used to whisk away tissue fluid that can compromise the result. They typically stay in one to two weeks. Activity limitations exist for about two weeks to limit the amount of fluid you drain.
Exercise limitations improve the odds of a successful result if the muscle is tightened as part of the tummy tuck, we ask you not do exercises that stress the abdominal muscles for one year. All other exercise is encouraged. The improvement from the surgery is usually immediately apparent but improves over months. Usually at two months, you will see about 80% of the surgical results, but improvement continues for about a full year.
Many women say that their abdomen looks like it did prior to their pregnancy or weight gain. This operation is often the first one done following weight loss (bariatric) surgery. The result with this patient group is usually dramatic.
