Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
As we lose weight and/or age the breasts tend to descend off the chest wall onto the upper abdomen. The breasts lose volume ni the upper half of the breasts diminishing cleavage and creating skin on skin which can cause rashes. This is a common consequence of pregnancy. Women come to the office wanting their breasts back up on their chest, off their abdomen, as well as a better contour. The operation that addresses those concerns is called a “mastopexy” or “breast lift”. Depending on the extent of the droopiness, the scar can go just around the nipple areolar complex or that plus a vertical scar “lollipop” shaped scar, or awful wise pattern “anchor” type scar which goes around the nipple areola with a vertical scar and a scar beneath the inframammary crease. This is primarily a skin operation but some breast tissue is removed to help with shaping. There is not much discomfort. Most women take pain medication for maybe a couple of days. There are techniques with this operation that repositions some of the excess breast tissue in the lower pole and transitions it to the upper pole to get some cleavage. Should you desire more projection or a larger cup size; an implant can be added to the procedure.
A mastopexy creates a more youthful contour. Symmetry can be improved. Good results are best achieved with a board certified plastic surgeon whose education, surgical experience, and talent are brought to bear for your operation.
