Questions about Brow Lift Surgery
What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure for smoothing creases and raising fallen tissue in the forehead and brow area. Fallen brows and loose, baggy tissue in the eyebrow area can contribute to an aged, tired, or permanently angry appearance.
What Does a Brow Lift Treat?
A brow lift is a powerful procedure for targeting aging in the forehead and orbital area. It can target:
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Vertical and horizontal lines in the region between the eyebrows (glabellar lines)
- A lowered brow
- Loose tissue in the upper orbital area
The results of a brow lift are long-lasting, which means you can have a younger appearance for years to come.
Is a Brow Lift the Right Procedure for Me?
The only way to know whether a brow lift is the right procedure for you is by scheduling a consultation with the board-certified plastic surgeons at the Feagin & Owen Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center. During your consultation, aging in your eye region will be evaluated and you will get recommendations for the right procedure for you, which may be a brow lift, or it may be eyelid surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, laser skin rejuvenation, or a combination of procedures.
What Types of Brow Lifts Do You Perform?
There are several different techniques for Brow lifts. The newest is the endoscopic brow lift. This utilizes only three ½” incisions in the hair. In the older techniques know as the coronal brow lift, a large incision is made in the scalp. We do not have to use this old technique very often, but occasionally, there is an indication for it. In the transblepharoplasty brow lift, the only incision is in the upper eyelid crease. The MAC 5 lift addresses the brow, canthus and midface. It is done through open coronal incisions.
Will a Brow Lift Make Me Look Surprised or Otherwise Change My Appearance?
No. Older techniques or overzealous surgeons can sometimes cause a person to get the "surprised" look, but when well-done the results of a brow lift are completely natural. People will likely remark how much you look rested or refreshed. They will likely not notice a stark change in your appearance. In fact, long-term acquaintances are often impressed at how much you look like yourself. By removing the effects of aging, we are helping you to look more like the person they remember.
What Is Recovery From a Brow Lift Like?
There is typically some minor discomfort associated with a brow lift, Some people noted that they have a mild headache for a few hours to a day. There is minimal incisional pain because the incisions are very small. There will be some bruising around the orbital area. You should take a few days to a week off work and expect most of the swelling and bruising to be gone in two weeks.
