Liposuction

Serving Dothan, Alabama and Panama City, Florida areas

Are you unhappy with your figure? Are you tired of the "wobbly bits" that make you feel self-conscious any time you go out in public? Do you dread wearing shorts, crop tops, tight fitting jeans, and swimsuits? You don't have to live with a figure you dislike. Liposuction can remove unsightly bulges and fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can help you achieve a figure you will be proud to show off. Liposuction will trim several inches off your waist line and remove some of the fat in your upper hips to better shape and accentuate your waist. The saddle bag deformity of the hips can also be eliminated, thus allowing you to look good in tighter fitting pants.

This page contains some basic information about the liposuction procedure. The best way to learn whether you are a good candidate for liposuction is to schedule a consultation with one of the board-certified plastic surgeons at the Feagin & Owen Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center.

Liposuction: What Is It?

Liposuction is a procedure for removing fat from the body using suction. A cannula (narrow metal tube) is inserted into the area to be treated and suction removes fat. The fat is collected and can be reinjected in a fat grafting procedure or discarded. The most common uses for removed fat are buttock augmentation , facial rejuvenation and/or breast enhancement.

There are many variations on the liposuction procedure. Tumescent liposuction, which has become the industry standard, injects fluid containing anesthesia into the treated area to facilitate the removal of fat. At the Feagin & Owen Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center, we use a combination of tumescent liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction (UHL) to break or lyse the fat cells, making them easier to remove without damaging other tissue in the area that is capable of resisting the ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic liposuction uses ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic liposuction is not a replacement for tumescent liposuction, but  is used in conjunction with tumescent liposuction. Drs. Feagin and Owen have the state of the art in liposuction equipment. We have both the VASER liposuction system and the Lysonix liposuction system.

Areas Liposuction Treats

Liposuction can be used on virtually every area of the body, including:

  • Neck
  • Back
  • Chest (especially for gynecomastia treatment)
  • Tummy
  • Love handles (flanks)
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Knees
  • Ankles

Whether liposuction is the best treatment option for you in reducing fat in these areas depends on whether your skin is likely to contract after fat is removed. During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your skin condition to determine if liposuction is the best treatment or whether you will get better results from a tummy tuck or another procedure.

Why Feagin & Owen for Your Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction performed by an unskilled or uneducated practitioner can be dangerous. Liposuction results also depend highly upon the surgeon's technique and experience. You want to work with a surgeon that has performed thousands of liposuction procedures and also one that uses liposuction on a weekly if not a daily basis. Dr. Feagin was the first surgeon in Alabama to use liposuction. He started contouring bodies with liposuction in 1983 and has used liposuction almost every week since then. If you are considering liposuction, you should work with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon to ensure that your procedure is safe and gives you the kind of results you desire.

Dr. Charles Feagin and Dr. William Owen are board-certified plastic surgeons with nearly 50 years of combined surgical experience helping the people of Dothan, Alabama; Columbus, Georgia; Panama City, Florida, and surrounding areas. They understand the safety protocols of liposuction and are skilled at giving great results using the procedure. You can see examples of their results in our Before and after gallery.
