Are you concerned about crow's feet, lipstick lines, and your permanently creased brow? If so, then BOTOX® Cosmetic may be the right treatment for you. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the seemingly miraculous wrinkle treatment that has transformed the industry of facial rejuvenation. BOTOX® is so popular, that it accounts for over a third of all cosmetic treatments performed by plastic surgeons. BOTOX® Cosmetic doesn't treat all types of wrinkles, but for those it treats it gives excellent results. Although the results are temporary, the procedure takes just a few minutes, requires no downtime, and is relatively inexpensive.
To learn whether you are a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment, please schedule a consultation at the Feagin & Owen Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center today.
BOTOX® is a purified and diluted version of a botulinum toxin. It works by relaxing overactive muscles. Our facial muscles are like the other muscles in our body, they learn by repetition to perform and even anticipate common tasks. Because we are constantly contracting our muscles in making facial expressions, our facial muscles come to anticipate the routine contractions and remain tensed, which creates permanent lines and folds in our face suggestive of a permanent scowl or grimace. When these overactive muscles are injected with BOTOX®, they relax and the skin smoothes.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a very effective treatment for a number of common complaints associated with the aging process, including:
During your BOTOX® procedure, you will be given a few small injections into the appropriate muscles. The treatment takes just 15-30 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. You may experience some swelling and redness over the first couple days, but by the third day this should be gone and you should begin seeing the results of the treatment, the smoothing of wrinkles.
Because BOTOX® Cosmetic only works on some wrinkles, it is often necessary to use other treatments in combination or instead of BOTOX® to get you the best possible results. Although BOTOX® relaxes the muscles under the skin, due to the effects of aging, the skin itself may have retained folds. These folds can be improved using skin care treatments like chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing. Some wrinkles are due to a loss of volume under the skin, and can be treated using dermal fillers.
Although BOTOX® is a great treatment for many forehead wrinkles, if you have excess or loose skin in the forehead, the best treatment is a brow lift. Other times, you may have loose or excess skin throughout the facial region, which may require a facelift to correct.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a very safe treatment. Most side effects of the treatment are due to injector error, which is why you should always work with a skilled, experienced practitioner with a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy. You should also work with a surgeon who uses BOTOX® because it's the right treatment, not because it's the only option he has.
Dr. Charles Feagin and Dr. William Owen are board-certified plastic surgeons whose knowledge of facial anatomy comes not only from detailed training, but also from years of experience performing facial plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments like BOTOX®. They know how to use BOTOX® to maximum effect, and when it is not the best option for you.
